Ben BaileyBen Bailey Scholarship

The Blowout Saxophone School is appealing for budding musicians to apply for this year's Ben Bailey Sholarship Award.

The fund, which covers the cost of lessons at the school for a year, was set up in memory of Ben, a young saxophone player from Larkhall who died in 1998.

The fund was established by the director of the school to mark the tragic death of the youngster who was killed in a car accident.

Local children aged between 10 and 17, who otherwise could not afford the lessons are eligible to apply.

The school usually receives more than a dozen applications for the award.

"I really enjoyed my first year of playing the sax. It was a great opportunity for me. Now I want to go on playing. My teacher Chris is great and he lets me play music I like. We play along together which is enjoyable and fun. One of the highlights of playing was when I went along to the Bath Music Festival to be one of 500 who broke the World Record for the most sax players playing at one time. It was awesome and exciting"
Harry Holder (Age 14)

Another successful former Ben Bailey student is Ben Ross who is supremely gifted on the tenor saxophone and is now playing in the band 'The Duckworths'.He said of the scholarship

"For me,the Ben Bailey Scholarship was a brilliant opportunity ~ part of me feels honoured and part of me feels sad (as I knew Ben.)To this day I wonder what I would have been without this."
Ben Ross
